I found a great post yesterday (looking for Gibran) http://www.spiritualthingsmatter.com/2009/01/25/creative-expressions/#comments I liked the sentiment about rather than letting negative events/emotions defeat you/make you give up to channel them into creation.

  3. Whenever the flaws in my work are driving me mad, I consider quitting. Then I imagine my life after that, and I get back to work. Life without creating–that’s where true madness lies.
