As a parent of someone who loved to do “tricks”on his bike, I can assure Marta, that the neighborhood kid has seen this and even attempted several of the moves. Someone is always pushing the envelop…I’m just glad it isn’t me. I’m with you John, on the couch with a book or laptop is my speed!

marta: You familiar with the, well, I guess it's a sport, called parkour? If I were a parent, I'd try to keep knowledge of that out of my kids' hands for sure! But as a non-parenting adult, yeah, things like this guy's bicycle stunts and parkour artists' running appeal to me in the same way that stories about any driven individuals appeal to me. I feel serious about, intense about writing, but it feels almost lame compared to the driven intensity of guys like this.

Now I can’t decide if I want to show this is the neighbor kid. What if he sees this and goes off and breaks his neck. Sigh. It is one think to love big dreamers. Another thing to be the grown up.

He’s brilliant. I’ve long wondered what it is about some people who do. is it a gene, a difference in the brain, a childhood of…?

I’d like my son to be passionate about something when he grows up–but not like scary obsessed stalker. There is a line, even if it is not clear.
