I know this is just a simplistic reiteration of Simon Price's superb review, but they remind me very much of <i>The Beach Boys</i>. I've been listening to the <i>White Winter Hymnal</i> (and <i>Mykonos</i>) a lot. Did you see the YouTube comment which suggests - all too plausibly - that the song is about the gang-related murder of one of their childhood friends?
