…and probably always will. But this is a pretty damned impressive advertisement/trailer:
It sort of compresses all the memes from the SyFy cable network’s distinctive bumper spots into a big ol’ nearly coherent 2:40 whole (and avoids the corny-CGI temptations to which the network’s special-effects guys all too often succumb in the actual programs). Nice.
(Anybody know what song is on the soundtrack? Musically, it reminds me a lot of the song whose adorable video I featured in this post back in June, but the lyrics don’t seem the same.)

I hate the SyFy name too. But the promo is great.
My recaptcha says deforest Lynn. WOuld’ve cool if it had said deforest Kelley.

That was pretty cool. Yes, the name change was pointless and stupid, but it was a cool promo. If their programming were the equal they’d have something. :)

The football on the staircase uses the characters from the show Warehouse 13 which I can’t find anymore (on Syfy or anywhere else except on YouTube, I guess). The football is a recurring theme on the show and I liked that they incorporated it into the promo. It was a great show and one of my daughter’s friends was a writer for it.

Squirrel: That was MY favorite bit, too! (Although the ping-pong match and the origami unicorn tied for a close second.)
marta: If it had been Kelley instead of Lynn I’d have written a check to the reCaptcha project on the spot.
Darc: PERFECT point about the programming. I know it’s got to be tedious and expensive to do so many 2-hour “SyFy original movies,” but jeez, surely they can do better. (Remember the airliner-eating shark?)
cynth: You can stop by here to see Warehouse 13 episodes online (e.g., the pilot). That is a great show, and once you mentioned it I remembered that they used the Escher staircase commercial.
(Wikipedia says it’ll be be back for a second season in 2010, btw.)
