Hello, IG. It's been... a while. Needing a hip replacement kept me out of the "goin' out to take photos" loop (especially with my camera, vis-a-vis phone) for months; actually *getting* and *recovering from* the hip replacement took another couple. Now trying to get back into something that feels like, well, taking photos!

Here's a random assortment of pix taken around New Bern, NC, during our visit there a couple weeks ago. Reminding me of the pleasures of -- among other things -- good old black-and-white imagery.

(With my camera, I shoot RAW images, so color versions are always available if I want them. But I believe b&w somehow always feels more... well, *real*. It makes shapes and textures more tangible, weirdly, even when captured in just two dimensions; color sometimes seems to lead the eye away from the elemental realities of the subject. Or maybe I'm just predisposed to grayscale because I started in photography with b&w film and a school darkroom that wasn't equipped for color production.)

I haven't posted here for a while; I've been (haha) focused on writing for the last couple of months, and it felt weird to belabor you kind, visually imaginative and creative folks with *words* instead of images.

Still, I thought y'all might find some interest in this question: what might an AI make of a photographer's online photo gallery? What would it say about the kinds of photos we take, and what would it then say about *us*?

As you'll see, it wasn't easy to get there, at least with the Claude AI. But... I got there!
