Their high-energy music feels like it blends so many genres as to be unclassifiable, at least by me. Wikipedia takes the easy way out, dubbing them a &#8220;contemporary swing revival band.&#8221; They are that. But such a generic label covers a lot of territory, and BBVD (as they agreeably refer to themselves) are nothing if not specialists. Think high-energy Dixieland, tinged with rockabilly and big-band influences and presented with Cab Calloway-style showmanship, infectious Big Easy roadhouse chaos and Windy City Roaring &#8217;20s radio broadcasts&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>(As with many bands who take on retro personas &#8212; say, Stray Cats &#8212; I like that these guys don&#8217;t take themselves seriously&#8230; but are not kidding around about the\u00a0<em>music<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;ve got a new album out, an EP called\u00a0<em>Rattle Them Bones<\/em>. One of the three bonus tracks on the digital version is this number, &#8220;Going Back to New Orleans,&#8221; shaded with Creole rhythms as well as their characteristic go-go-go energy. (That just happens to be the title of <a title=\"AllMusic: 'Back Home in New Orleans,' by Champion Jack Dupree\" href=\"http:\/\/www.allmusic.com\/album\/back-home-in-new-orleans-mw0000690906\" target=\"_blank\">a 1990 album<\/a>\u00a0&#8211;although not a song &#8212; by blues pianist Champion Jack Dupree. Longtime readers of\u00a0<em>RAMH<\/em> may recognize the feel of the lyrics from <a title=\"Earlier RAMH post: 'Midweek Music Break: Dr. John, 'Iko Iko''\" href=\"https:\/\/johnesimpson.com\/blog\/2012\/06\/midweek-music-break-dr-john-iko-iko\/\" target=\"_blank\">this post<\/a>, as translated on <a title=\"Wikipedia, on 'Iko Iko'\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iko_Iko#Linguistic_origins\" target=\"_blank\">that song&#8217;s Wikipedia page<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 90%; line-height: 1.25em;\"><em>[Below, click Play button to begin <\/em>Going Back to New Orleans<em>.
