…can be viewed here<\/a>. Of course, this is response to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which takes effect today for visitors from the European Union.<\/p>\n

I’ll be honest: it seems veeeeery unlikely that I’d ever be in a position to violate someone’s privacy; the very limited data I capture here is almost entirely data which they’ve explicitly allowed me to capture. For instance, when you comment here you’re asked to supply a name, email address, and Web site… none of which are required to be your real<\/em> name, etc. It’s just used to identify you on return visits, so you don’t have to keep re-entering it.<\/p>\n

Aside: I <\/em>have corresponded occasionally via email with people who’ve left their addresses here. But I’ve never done so unsolicited, and it’s always been for their reasons, not mine. I certainly don’t “harvest” them or anything like it.<\/em><\/p>\n

On a good day, Running After My Hat<\/em> may draw a few dozen visitors, some of them returnees but most of them people who come here via a Web search. So it’s not like I’m hosting a site with thousands, millions<\/em> of users’ data. I don’t know the stats off the top of my head but I’d guess that 80-90% of visitors come here from within the US or other non-EU countries. Still, it seemed wise to finally post an official privacy policy… I did not<\/em> want to receive anything like a “Your site must be taken down!” notice, or visit from Interpol, or whoever will enforce the GDPR.<\/p>\n
