Suddenly two ragged soldiers from the local militia burst through the door, shouting manic threats, spraying bullets \u2013 but only at floor level. The ladder toppled, striking one unconscious. Clarkson fell, grabbed the ceiling fan &#8212; bloody damn ceiling hole! &#8212; and flung it in the other\u2019s direction\u2026<\/p><p>He hog-tied both, wrists to ankles, and finished his ceiling work: industriously repairing the new hole.
