He was thin as a spindle, with an academic\u2019s disregard for his wavy chocolate-colored hair. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter how well you know the rules; catechism must be repeated to be internalized.\u201d I wrote them down, right into [the library book I was translating]. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\"><em><strong>Core Goals of Activism<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Win meaningful victories<\/em> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Build movements that don\u2019t recapitulate the power structures we seek to challenge<\/em> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Create effective political alliances<\/em> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Inspire hope and action <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Contemplating his scholar-chic nonchalance and the trouser tapering around his derriere, I, for one, felt inspired to take action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In retrospect I think how silly I was to fall in love with the workers\u2019 politics of a skinny college boy who had never worked a day in his life, but I forgive other hot-blooded students the same. If young people didn\u2019t go around falling in love with this or that, willing to throw their bodies before the cannon, the whole world would have burned down long ago.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>(Juliet Grames [<em><a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=p57eEAAAQBAJ&amp;pg=PA101#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">source<\/a><\/em>])<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;and:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>As a species, we hold tightly to our intuitions, and we tend to believe them. But recent centuries of science have taught us that most assumptions we typically make about the material universe are founded upon misconceptions. This is among the most important lessons of human history: we must never ignore facts, but when we try to interpret them we must beware, for common sense is a thoroughly unreliable guide to the workings of the natural world.
