You have to accept that sometimes that&#8217;s how things happen in this world. People&#8217;s opinions, their feelings, they go one way, then the other. It just so happens you grew up at a certain point in this process.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It might be just some trend that came and went,&#8221; I said. &#8220;But for us, it&#8217;s our life.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Yes, that&#8217;s true. But think of it. You were better off than many who came before you. I envy<br>people who are more excited<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>by etymology than I am, but not<br>the ones who can explain how<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>music works&#8212;I wonder whether<br>the critic who wrote<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>that the Cocteau Twins were the voice<br>of god still believes it. Why not,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>what else would god sound like.<br>Even though I know better, when I see<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the word misericordia I still think<br>suffering, not forgiveness;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>when we commiserate we are united<br>not in mercy but in misery,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>so let\u2019s go ahead and call this abscess<br>of history the Great Commiseration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The difference<br>between affliction and affection<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>is a flick, a lick&#8212;but check<br>again, what lurks in the letters<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>is \u201clie,\u201d and what kind of luck<br>is that. As the years pile up<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>our friends become more vocal<br>about their various damages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Won\u2019t you let me monetize<br>your affliction, says my friend<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the corporation. When I try to enter<br>the name of any city<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>it autocorrects to Forever:<br>I\u2019m spending a week in Forever,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forever was hotter than ever<br>this year, Forever\u2019s expensive<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but oh the museums,<br>and all of its misery\u2019s ours.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>(Mark Bibbins [<em><a href=\"https:\/\/poets.org\/poem\/end-endless-decade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">source<\/a><\/em>])<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;and:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Vote Your Way to Hell<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a long and arduous journey.<br>Starving with numbness.<br>Tired of mixing kindness and sabotage.<br>You can\u2019t trust instinct.<br>After the election, you can\u2019t believe the weather is wrong again.<br>The sky cheats on your speech.<br>The process is complicated and precarious.<br>Disappointed, there\u2019s no word of a sad sneer.<br>Nothing has changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What else do you expect?<br>This is already a hell, paved by your blood and passion.<br>You\u2019d rather go back to the womb, it\u2019s warmer.<br>May other reckless souls be consumed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even so, I want everyone to vote.<br>Vote your way to an alternative hell.<br>Congratulations!<br>You\u2019re part of the construction of our living inferno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, keep cracking and burning bones as fuel.<br>The walls scream for mercy, sounding like your singing voice.<br>Many innocent young souls are recognized.<br>Vote! You deserve limbo, not war.<br><span style=\"margin-left: 25px; text-indent: -25px; display: inline-block;\">We need to keep walking in the dark, searching for hellfire and passing offspring an improbable spring and a maybe sunrise.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>(Chia-Lun Chang [<em><a href=\"https:\/\/poets.org\/poem\/vote-your-way-hell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">source<\/a><\/em>])<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>The Rules<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Never go outside the expertise of your people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whenever possible go outside the expertise of the enemy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ridicule is man\u2019s most potent weapon. There is no defense. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule.
