Maybe not all, but your fingernails<br \/>\nYou need; they are really claws, and we know<br \/>\nClaws. The sharks &#8212; what about them?<br \/>\nThey make other fish swim faster. The hard-faced men<br \/>\nIn black coats who chase you for hours<br \/>\nIn dreams &#8212; that&#8217;s the only way to get you<br \/>\nTo the shore. Sometimes those hard women<br \/>\nWho abandon you get you to say, &#8220;You.&#8221;<br \/>\nA lazy part of us is like a tumbleweed.<br \/>\nIt doesn&#8217;t move on its own. Sometimes it takes<br \/>\nA lot of Depression to get tumbleweeds moving.<br \/>\nThen they blow across three or four States.<br \/>\nThis man told me that things work together.<br \/>\nBad handwriting sometimes leads to new ideas;<br \/>\nAnd a careless god &#8212; who refuses to let people<br \/>\nEat from the Tree of Knowledge &#8212; can lead<br \/>\nTo books, and eventually to us. I\u2019ve got a thousand places to be.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(Rebecca Hoogs [<a title=\"Poetry Foundation: 'Another Plot Clich\u00e9,' by Rebecca Hoogs\" href=\"http:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/archive\/poem.html?id=178417\" target=\"_blank\"><em>source<\/em><\/a>])<\/p>\n<p>Over at the KickStarter &#8220;crowdsourced funding platform&#8221; site, pretty much any artist, performer, writer, photographer (etc.) can actively pursue the spinning of gold from the straw of their empty pockets. <span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>(Block that metaphor!)<\/em><\/span> This week a band called Sons of Bill joined their ranks, proposing to <a title=\"KickStarter: Sons of Bill's third album\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/576234835\/sons-of-bill-the-third-album\" target=\"_blank\">fund production of their third album<\/a> through KickStarter. As you can see, they hit their target &#8212; $20,000 &#8212; within twenty-four hours, although the donation period stretches all the way to April 1. (As of this moment, they&#8217;re at almost $25K.) I don&#8217;t know how they plan to spend the extra funds, but typically with KickStarter projects any money beyond the target gets used to polish the resulting work somehow. (It goes to more professional marketing and distribution, say, or to the rental of better production facilities, whatever.)
