Updated theme’s in place.
Some slightly flaky stuff going on, mostly due to my (BAD) habit of putting posts into more than one category. There are also a handful of customized styles I want to carry forward from the old theme to the new. Hope to fix those things at some point, but for now I’ll just leave the floor open for questions and comments, especially of the “Feature X doesn’t work anymore!” or “Uh-oh, you overlooked Y!” varieties.
???
(Oh, btw — using the Reply link at the foot of a post, even an old one, should now successfully create a threaded conversation, with succeeding comments indented/nested below the preceding ones. However, any earlier comments replied to under the old theme do NOT thread. No comments have been lost, but the, uh, the threadability didn’t affect any older conversations.)

Test comment.

@John – test reply…
John says
hmm… threaded comments now not working???

Love the new look – clean, uncluttered – although the old one was pretty nifty too. And you used a Canadian package (metric weight, English/French) to launch it. How sweet …
Nance says
Very sharp. Very masculine and clean. I like it! Are you pleased?
Nance says
Um…two “The Burrows” here. It deserves two. I’ll just head there next to prove it.

Tessa: “Canadian package (metric weight, English/French)” – Um, er, oh, uh… Yes, of course I did! Seriously, though, I didn’t even know. I just… liked it. Always surprising, you Canadian packages. :)
Thank you for the feedback!

Nance: Oh, good catch on The Burrow The Burrow. One link for each of her identities, ha.
I’m happy with the look, yes, more or less. (A couple pleats and darts to add, still.) But three functional things are going to drive me crazy in the short term:
(1) The commenting system (as you can probably tell from the frustrated tone of the first three comments above). Somehow the replies-to-comments thing isn’t functioning, let alone the threading, although they do at the test site. I hope reCaptcha isn’t somehow at fault…
(2) The order of the categories in the right sidebar isn’t working as expected.
(3) Something strange going on with the blog’s caching system: when I make a design or other under-the-hood change, it’s not taking effect immediately (at least from my computer/browser). So I can’t tell for a while if a change is actually working. I don’t think I’ve altered the caching plug-in at all, so…? (Sorry for the technoidisms.)
Thanks for the feedback!
John says
Maybe the threading is back on? Dare one hope?
John says
Great day in the morning!
John says
Now I’ve just gotta go back and see which of the various plug-ins, etc. — many of which I’d turned off — may have been at fault. (“Just,” he says. What a kidder.)
John says
Huh. I just noticed my comments have an “Edit” option (at least when viewed from here). Do the rest of you see that on your comments??? (Or maybe it’s because the blog knows I’m the administrator…)
John says
Interesting… couldn’t understand why blog traffic had dropped almost to 0 in the last few days. I mean, people have been commenting, right? How come their visits weren’t being counted?
Tip: if you track your blog’s traffic via a service like SiteMeter, StatCounter, Google Analytics, etc., when you change your theme be sure to bring along the HTML code you used to use in the earlier version.
(Well, duh, John.)
