I don’t think I’ve ever listened to anything by The Coup before, and probably will find excuses not to do so again. But this was too entertaining to keep to myself. I’ve always thought of Patton Oswalt as one of the most interesting and consistently watchable comedians in the business — the video sort of cements that impression in my mind.
Midweek Music Break: The Coup (and Patton Oswalt), “The Magic Clap”
I have a “real” Midweek Music Break in the pipeline, but it’ll have to wait another week; it’s taking (to my surprise) way too much time in the research for me to finish today. In the meanwhile, here’s a hilarious video in which comedian Patton Oswalt acts out the lyrics to The Coup’s new single “The Magic Clap.” Paste, where I saw it, describes this as “an awesomely spastic video” — which says pretty much all there is to say about it. (No lyrics provided, for what will be obvious reasons.)

Now that’s one Magic Clap! Your description of the Paste review brought to mind (and I’m not exactly sure why…) Roger Ebert’s review of “Cloud Atlas” which I read after I saw that movie. Both worth a look. Considerably longer, in both cases I think, than Magic Clap.

…and neither involves Patton Oswalt, unfortunately. i think he might have added well to either.

I just read that review. He says (paraphrasing) Cloud Atlas is one of those movies that remind you of what the magic of movies can accomplish; as is often the case, Ebert’s review itself reminds me of that magic — and also reminds me of the magic that movie reviews can accomplish.
Haven’t yet seen the film, though. As soon as it was available for streaming to DVR, I recorded it one night for future watching. But as one might have predicted, it got crowded out by recordings of TV series’ entire seasons, old movies, and such; when the DVR started complaining of having too little space, it was an obvious candidate for (regretful) deletion. (Currently, I fear Moonrise Kingdom might be headed for the same fate.) By now Cloud Atlas is probably available for Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu streaming, and I should check there. Thanks for the reminder.
All of which said, I do have the book loaded on the Kindle… so far, unread. :)
P.S. Yeah. It’s on Amazon, in HD, for $3.99. (For a 48-hour “rental,” so I haven’t rented it yet. Just put it on the Watchlist.)
