Her Mom (looking more worried than I think I’ve ever seen her), her Dad (looking more stunned into tenderness than I’ve ever imagined seeing him), and grand-niecelet Madison (looking oblivious), 2012-05-12 (two days after her birthday).
Ridiculous pursuits, matters solemn and less so

P.S. That’s clockwise, from top left. :)

Your interpretation of their expressions just might reflect your own varied emotions.

True. In which case, yay me for empathy! :)

John says
Yeah. All three of them (in their own respective ways :)).

As much as I like your observations, I have a feeling that mom is feeling more determined and probably bemused at those taking the pictures than worried. Quite a sight, though, hunh? I’m still thinking about it. Pondering and “taking it all in” so to speak.

I thought exactly the same thing about her (i.e. mom) when I saw the photo as an email attachment; she actually made me think of, like, an Amazon warrior queen or something.
Then I enlarged the photo enough to see those little parallel “worry lines” between her eyebrows. They bespoke a certain amount of, let’s say, concern about it all — not the birth itself, not even the reality of having children in general, but all the OTHER stuff happening at the margins. (I’m thinking, especially, of the name-the-baby Round Robin. Heh.) Like, Holy sh!t, what have we bought into?!?

Yep, I’m with Cynth. For the most part. And you, too. But the worry lines… Oh boy, careful, they turn into deep furrows that are entirely unresponsive to any known miracle whips!
Oh, but it’s grand. Blessings to them. Congratulations to Great-Uncle and family. :)
